Kids Cook Quarantine Camps

To safeguard the health of your kids and families, my family, and the community at large, I’ve decided to cancel Kids Cook Memphis’s day camps at the Church Health Center this June. However, this doesn’t mean I’ve abandoned my mission of teaching Memphis-area kids to cook! Although the situation is far from ideal, I’m happy to be able to provide a service that, as a parent myself, I’ve come to believe many of us will need this summer: a creative and social outlet for kids who are unable to pursue the usual activities outside of the home. Kids Cook Memphis will offer cooking day camps via Zoom (or another convenient platform) for one week in June. I can’t tell you how much I’ll miss working in person with your kids and the grownups who help me. But I also believe we can still have fun and make some tasty food.

Kids Cook will provide:

  • Detailed daily plans
  • Shopping lists with links to providers wherever appropriate
  • Morning and afternoon meetings and small-group followup instruction throughout the day
  • Supplementary crafts and/or activities
  • Skills videos for repeated watching
  • Stern guidance around safety and cleanup

Families will need to be responsible for :

  • Zoom access
  • Purchasing needed supplies
  • Organizing daily setups
  • Providing supplementary safety and cleanup guidance and/or supervision

Week of June 22: Bake Shop
Ages 10-14, 9am – 4pm with lunch/recess break

  • Morning lessons and small group skill meetings, afternoon lessons and projects
  • Build your kitchen skills with projects like yeast and quick breads
  • Pastry, cakes, and/or cookies and bars
  • Meringues and custards
