Summer Day Camps

Thanks for your interest in Kids Cook Memphis! We’re excited about our camps for summer 2019. We’ve got a couple of new offerings! Below are the dates for this summer’s camps, with signup links.

Why cooking camp? Some kids will eat almost anything. Kids Cook Memphis’s day camps are great for those kids. But some kids are really skeptical eaters and can find their way to enjoying a much wider array of foods by cooking them. At Kids Cook, we cultivate a try-anything-once attitude, while teaching lifelong skills that will help kids develop happy, healthy eating habits.

This summer, Kids Cook Memphis will run Kitchen Basics 1, Kitchen Basics 2, a new baking week, a short week before July 4th, and Basics for Beginners. In Kitchen Basics, we focus on the fundamentals of food preparation, including safety, cleanliness, and making stuff taste good. Kitchen Basics 1 and 2 will be different from each other, but Week 1 is not a prerequisite for Week 2.

June 3-7: Basics for Beginners (ages 6-9)
June 10-14: Kitchen Basics (ages 9-12)
June 17-21: KB2 — Dinner Party (tweens/ages 10-14/returning campers)
June 24-28: Bake Shop (new offering, ages 10 and up)
July 1-3: Play with your Food, a camp for beginners ages 6-10 ($175)

All camps run M-F, 9-4 and will cost $275/week unless noted. We meet in the Church Health Center’s teaching kitchen in Crosstown Concourse. Registration can be accessed by clicking the name of the camp you’d like to sign your child up for. 

Basics for Beginners, Week of June 3. Campers aged 6-9 will explore the world of flavors and learn to practice safety, hygiene, and practical skills, including washing and prepping fruits and vegetables, measurement of ingredients, and responsible knife and tool handling. We’ll cook in the oven and on a stovetop, and make no-cook snacks and salads. Participants will also learn clean-as-you-go practices to be implemented at home. Please have your child bring a packed lunch and water in a reusable bottle. Snacks will also be provided. This camp costs $275. Register here!

Kitchen Basics 1, Week of June 10. Campers aged 9-12 will learn and practice safety, hygiene, and practical skills, including washing and prepping fruits and vegetables, measurement of ingredients, and responsible knife handling. We’ll cook on the stovetop and in the oven, and learn to make vinaigrettes, fresh pasta, and bread. Participants will also learn clean-as-you-go practices to be implemented at home. On our last day, participants are encouraged to invite a friend or family member to join the group for a snack. Please have your child bring a packed lunch and water in a reusable bottle. Kitchen Basics 2 — Dinner Party! Week of June 17. This camp is designed for kids aged 10-14 who have attended KCM camps before or other older kids who have some familiarity with working in a kitchen. The camp will focus on creating a menu for a summer party and cooking the different dishes on that menu. Campers will continue to learn and practice safety, hygiene, and practical skills, including washing and prepping fruits and vegetables, measurement of ingredients, and responsible knife handling. We’ll cook on the stovetop and in the oven. Participants will also learn clean-as-you-go practices to be implemented at home. On our last day, participants are encouraged to invite a friend or family member to join the group for a sampling of the dishes campers have learned to make. Please have your child bring a packed lunch and water in a reusable bottle. Snacks will also be provided. This camp costs $275. Register here!

Bake Shop, Week of June 24. This new offering will give campers the chance to explore the world of baking, from quick and yeast breads to cookies and cakes, cobblers and pies. This camp costs $275. Register here!

Play with your Food, Week of July 1-3. This short week will offer younger cooks (ages 6-10) the chance to explore flavors and techniques while making festive summer foods like 4th of July Fruit Pops. This camp costs $175. Register here!
